Attending arbitration conferences can be energizing, inspiring … and yes, a little intimidating. Whether it is navigating the networking breaks or finding the courage to speak up in a room full of experts, we have all been there.
This interactive session will equip you with practical tools to make the most of every conference experience. In the first part, we will share insider strategies to help you communicate confidently, connect authentically, and make your voice heard. Then, in the second part, you will put those techniques into action right away, because the best way to learn is by doing, with a Tylney style* session hosted by the LCIA. Join us to turn those moments of apprehension into opportunities for connection, confidence, and impact.
The session is co-hosted by Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and the Young International Arbitration Group (YIAG), with an impressive list of panellists to guide you through the session including QMUL professors from the School of International Arbitration, YIAG Co-Chairs, and the President of the LCIA Court.
What is Tylney-Style and How to Participate
As part of the Tylney-style segment of this session, participants are invited to submit short, practical discussion points (topics). In keeping with Tylney tradition, topics can be statements, or questions, that are designed to spark open conversation and debate. If your topic is selected, you will be asked to briefly introduce it to the room before the discussion opens to all participants on that topic. The discussion will be moderated by the panel. All submissions are welcome, particularly from those attending a Tylney-style session for the first time.
Please do submit more than one topic. Many delegates submit between 4-8 topics. The more topics, the better the discussion.
Due to the shorter nature of the session, we request that you propose topics which address one or more of the following broader themes. This should also hopefully guide participants as to what will be discussed on the day so as to ensure greater participation.
Topics/Themes
Participants are encouraged to share any topics they wish to debate,. The broad themes detailed below are not prescriptive and are shared for guidance only.
How to Submit Your Topic/Question
Please submit your proposed topics (one or two sentences, phrased as a question) via email to s.lamprinopoulou@hss24.qmul.ac.uk, with a copy to ccls-arbitration@qmul.ac.uk and the subject line “Tylney Topic – Mastering the Room”,
